Great stop over option - clean, conveninet & economical, although food a little pricey in the bar and very smokey.

Well what can I say - a total nightmare. On the evening that i was due to arrive at Russ Hill I left London at 10:00pm arrived at Gatwick aiport at 11.00pm hoping to be in bed by 11:30 for my check in at 8:00am the next day. Followed instructions I had printed off and couldn't find it - called the reception and spoke to a gentleman who gave me instructions - however, he failed to let me know that the road he had directed me to was closed off ! I called him back and he continued to give me dud directions - just kept diverting me back to the closed road. On caling back a few more times - he then proceeded to stop ansering the phone - knowing that I was driving around the winding, country roads in the pitch black with my disabled mother panicking in the car. I eventually found my own way there - arrived at 12.40am. On arrival - i asked why he did not answer thje phone and he said he was busy and had no way of knowing the road was closed off but did I want the room or not !? Charming ! Whilst trying to check me in the phone kept ringing - he answered a few times and gave the dud instructions he had given to me ! I asked about my car parking and was advised that the inspection report with mileage etc - would be filled out in the morning after i had left. I said that i didnt think so and would not be leaving my car with no paperwork - this was addressed in the morning anyway ! Shuttles are not frequent - beacuse it is too far out - had to be on shuttle at 6:00am as 7:00am was booked up ! So didn't really benefit me to stay at Russ Hill - beacuse i would have had to leave London at 6:00am anyway to catch my flight ! Off i went to my room - through the drunken guests with no shoes on - pints in hand ! My bed linen was dirty - room was suposed to be a twin but was a double with two bunk beds - like a dorm ! Room was dark - couln't even see to make tea ! Water in shower was sholding hot or freezing cold and taps sprayed all over the place. The parking is not a secure compound at all - just the parking on site, the cars do not move anywhere ! In summary this place is like faulty towers - what a hell hole ! I would not come back here is you paid me !

Room basic, lights not working. Expensive food, smoky atmosphere. Transfer back from Gatwick unreliable - only hourly and if it turns up early it doesn't wait! Quite far off the beaten track. Would not entertain a return visit.

We ate in the carvery restaurant and the meat was tough and not very good at all considering the price of the meal - very disappointing. The hotel room was ok but could do with decorating, and light switches need to be looked at as they were hanging off - we did report this to the receptionist on leaving.

Hotel was very dated and the bed was very hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. The room only price was £39, but I did expect the place to be more modern.

Unfortunately our room was a smoking room and smelt and the shower in our room did't work and I didn't find out until it was too late, although there was a bath I was unable to wash my hair. The parking surface where our car was parked was very bumpy and broke the wheel on my case. Otherwise a good experience.

Directions to hotel were excellent. Unfortunately, we arrived late evening and were told the bar was closed - even though it was before 11.30pm (when bar was to be closed). However, a sympathetic young lady let us buy a drink, for which we were very grateful. The room was fine apart from the foul smell of a previous smoking occupant, which was a bit disappointing as I had requested a non-smoking room. Also, one of the towels in the bathroom had the same smell, so I think it hadn't been changed. Would use the hotel again if flying from Gatwick. Shuttle bus service was excellent and on time.

Good location for Gatwick airport and surrounding areas. If parking is required, then it is good and makes for a less tiring flight. Reasonably helpful staff and choice of a couple of restaurants in-house, or good nearby pub food. Reliable morning call.

I suppose I got what I paid for. The room, along with everywhere else, stunk of stale smoke. The bedding felt and smelt damp. The bar food, although ok, was overpriced. Why cant they make a no smoking area at least. In future will pay more and go elsewhere.

Quite simply - don't! The hotel is old and unclean, it is quite a long way from Gatwick, the coach only runs every hour and ours didn't turn up either way - so we ended up getting cabs at £16 per trip - a real false economy.

Nice hotel and rooms; this was our second visit to Russ Hill, however I was bitten 6 times in the night from what I can guess were bed bugs. We also didn't get our wake up call; good job we set our mobile phones alarm. Can't fault the location or transfers.

I arrived late & left very early so don't have much more to add but thought price was good for 1 night, no penalty for being on my own which makes a pleasant change. Clean, friendly & got me to the airport on time.

Hotel pictures look great, but the room was tiny and dismal, despite asking for a non-smoking room it smelt as though it had housed a chain smoker for the last 20 years, the hairdrier didn't work and the shower set off the fire alarm. It made Fawlty Towers look smart. The bus took so long to get to the airport, some people were in danger of missing their flight and on the way back we had to wait 40 minutes for the shuttle. Next time I'd either take a taxi to the airport or spend more on a hotel that was hopefully somewhat better.

For some in my party, inappropriate rooms were allocated - short beds, this was changed. The corridors were very narrow and my son was in a wheelchair and it was hard to manouvre. When we arrived back at Gatwick we had a long wait for the courtesy bus and even though we were first in the queue with a wheelchair others pushed in and we were unable to get the six of us on. It had no provision for a wheelchair or luggage and was totally inadequate for the number of people waiting for it. Many were left at the airport. We had to go to the hotel, collect our cars and then go back to the airport for other members of our party and our luggage - totally unacceptable and we would never use this arrangement again - it was supposed to make life easier - it didn't.

Although this was quite a cheap option, I would not use this facility again. The bus to hotel was only once per hour, which meant over half an hour wait to return to car and the room was very small and claustrophobic.

The transfer back from the airport was meant to take 15 mins. The driver was picking up passengers and taking them to two other hotels and charging them. Seemed like a scam which made our transfer 30 mins.also, could the conductor not take the money once the bus was on the way--saving time.

Wouldn't book for a long stay here, but for overnight before an early flight including long term parking - good value. On the downside, shuttle runs only every 45 min during peak and every hour during off peak - which can mean a long wait. Also, it can run late (20 minutes in our case) and loading/unloading takes time so may be a good idea to take an earlier shuttle if you're tight for time.

Once the few tarmac parking spaces were occupied, you were left to scour the grounds for a space. By grounds, I mean the remnants of muddy fields with deep potholes, which were treacherous to negotiate. I was left to wade thru mud to retrace my steps to the hotel. On returning from holiday, my car had been moved whilst we were away, leaving large quantities of muddy boot prints over the carpet and car interior. Unlikely to use this "parking hotel" again, and I still haven't worked out if the small scratch on my car door was done there or not.
