On arrival parking was simple and convenient. Reception desk staff were OK, although not welcomming. When trying to take our bags to our room we were advised that we were expected to carry them up and down a flight of stairs. This was due to a private party taking place that caused access to the rooms to be via the stairs. There was no lift that would ease the situation. I advised staff that this was unacceptable and a member of staff was called to help carry some of our cases for us. The service offered to bring the car to the airport on our arrival was a positive bonus.
I have written and omplaain about the condition of the car park G on the night of 19/12/09. I fell over on the icy slope going into G and was lucky not to be seriously injured.
Overall good value for money room clean and tidy. The guy at the parking desk although a failed comedian was very helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel and transfer service to anyone flying from Gatwick.
However...... the management have no interest in any issues you raise with them. For example no hot water at all so no bath !! and a party of 400 who kept us awake all night !! If you are going to stay there just accept anything or don't bother because the management do not have any interest.
reception indifferent,no help upstairs with luggage.noisy function on downstairs which went on till past 1a.m.then noisy guests in rooms, shouting, swearing, crashing about.quite scary for single female traveller.i'd be quite interested in a refund,i had no sleep, and the bed looked as if it hadn't been changed.stains on bedcovers and carpets-quite disgusting.have given unfavourable review on tripadvisor too.
I travel on my own and found the Russ Hill staff very helpful. I am disapled and needed help parking my car and with my luggage , this was all taken care of by the reception staff, my car was right outside the hotel door on my return. Early morning call was on time and the tea making facilities were good . bus to Gatwick on time and easy to board , the drivr helped with my luggage . I would crtainly use tis hotel again
very easy to book on line and reasonably priced. you must be prepared to use the hotel facilities as it is a few miles from any other facilities. Rooms are comfortable with items you require for a short stay. Altogether good value for money
The transfer experience has put us off using the hotel in future, even though we realise that we would pay more if we stayed elsewhere.
This was a very nice hotel, rooms were small but adequate. Resturant was excellent. However when returing to collect the car we had to walk in the dark across three other car parks to find it. It very uneven ground and it was hard to find the car We did expect that it would have been brought near the entrance to the hotel.
Russ hotel is dated and rooms are substandard. Also when i got my car back looked like it had been driven in a farmers field with the amount of mud on it.
Everything was fine except...we booked an alarm call in order to get the transfer bus at 4am to get to the airpport on time but the call didn't come and it was just by luck that we woke up at 3.45am!We have never got up, dressed, repacked and down to the lobby so quickly!
we found this hotel to be exactly what it claimed. easy to book what we wanted and hassle free. we were able to leave the car in safe hands whilst we jetted off and the bus there and back was easy to find and use.
This is the type of experience that you need before you start your holiday. The only point that spoiled it was on my return too gatwick was that we had to wait 50 minutes for the bus transfer as this bus runs only every hour. Not what you need after an 8 hour flight.
handy if flying from gatwick airport, could be signposted a little better through the village but would probably use it again if flying from gatwick as it was valve for money
We didn't arrive until late (about 10pm)so only managed a bar meal and had to be up at 3am so only limited experience of facilities. However, parking, coach transfer and subsequent collection of vehicle were hassle free. Reception called our room to ensure we didn't miss bus. Hotel accommodation was fine for our needs. Would stay again.
We found Russ Hill very convenient for the airport - check in was easy and the arrangements for the parking was OK.
The hotel is just a few miles from Gatwick airport and the transfer bus takes about 20 mins.Taxi cost about £15. Good pub in the village serving value for money food, transfer bus will drop you off for £1.00. Budget hotel adequate for 1 night and we would use it again.
Booking in of selves and car straightforward, and no problems on our return after we lost the carpark ticket issued to us. Receptionist asks what time you need to be at airport and informs you of most suitable transfer bus departure time. Room clean and modern. Bathroom clean with good hot shower. Downsides were bed was rather hard (though not nearly as hard as our beds abroad!) and room walls pretty thin so woken by earlier departing neighbours using loo and shower! Bar and food on the pricey side but that could be "London prices" (we're from Lincs). We chose to eat in Charlwood village, a short drive away (ok to drive off site after booking in as your car is moved after you depart for your hol). In summary, for the price, this hotel is fine for one night's stay and with the parking it's a great deal.
Nice hotel, set in country location. Certainly does the job. Good restaurant, although bar prices are a bit high - (but good preparation for the eurozone!). Car parking system works well. Nice to return to after holiday; can relax in the garden for a while before the drive home...
I was told at the hotel that I could put £6 into the bus ticket machine all at once and I would get a £4 ticket and the bus driver would know I had paid the full amount NOT TRUE. I had to pay again on the bus. BUS TRANSFERS NOT FREQUENT ENOUGH TO THIS HOTEL. On our return we had to wait at the bus stop for 1 hour 20 Min's to get back to the hotel.
